Reading Journal (Calvin and Hobbes "Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons'

This week, i did not have any books, so i just picked up another book from my collection of Calvin & Hobbes books by Bill Waterson, this one is named Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons. I read three strips of them. I will have information on every strip i read, followed by an ending quote. The three strips are one whole story.

1. Calvin wants a new name.

It starts off with Calvin going up to his mother, and telling her that he will no longer respond to Calvin, but Calvin the bold. His mother makes a remark saying that it should be "Calvin the deranged. Haha, Calvin's mom is such a joker!

2. Calvin wants a new name 2.

The next day, Calvin is at school, his teacher, Mrs. Wormwood asks him do a math question. But she adresses him as Calvin, Calvin looks around looking for the person that goes by Calvin, Mrs. Wormwood looses her cool and screams at Calving saying that he is Calvin, Calvin responds by telling her that he demands to be addressed by the full title of CALVIN THE BOLD. He is sent to the principals office, the principals asks Calvin "Back again Calvin?" Calvin then asks the principal "Who?"

3. Calvin wants a new name 3.

Calvin's dad asks for Calvin to come. He does what his dad tells him to, then his dads asks him to kneel, Calvin does this too, that's when his dad says "By the finite patience vested in me, i hereby dub thee "Mud." You may rise. Then Calvins just walks off as if his dad killed the whole meaning of the prank.

Quote: Here we are, perched at the peak of Mount Maim! (He is about to use his sled) Why? Because i like to experience life to the fullest! I say you don't fully appreciate life until you risk losing it! I like to stare death straight in the eye and make him blink! If your adrenalin isn't pumping, you're not really living! Am i right? - Calvin

Reading Journal (Calvin and Hobbes "The Essential")

This week, i did not read any book, so i decided to pick up my collection of Calvin N Hobbes books.
I picked up, The Essential Calvin N Hobbes by Bill Waterson.

I read about 3 comic strips of the books.

1. Strip

Calvin wets his hair and gels it into a Alien like futuristic hair style, then he proceeds to go to his mother and say " Greetings, Earth Female. Do not be alarmed, our planet is dying. We need cookies to survive, do not try to resist or you will be destroyed".

2. Strip

It starts out with Hobbes reading a book, Calvin asks him a question if he likes it. Hobbes responds with a yes. Then he asks Hobbes if he can write a two page report on the book that is due for school the next day.

3. Strip

Calvin goes up to his dad, he shows him his current report card, Calvin reminds his dad that he didn't care how his grades were as long as he tried his hardest, then his dads reacts angrily and yells "Well you could certainly be trying harder than this!" Calvin makes a remark saying "So you admit you were lying?

Reading Journal (Waiting for Godot)

For this week, i am still reading "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett
The book is amazingly weird, and i have no idea what is going on.
Supposedly, they are stuck in this certain place (the sewer i believe) and they start talking trash to each other, names like moron, vermin, abortion, morpion, sewer-rat, curate, cretin, and crrtic,i have no idea what crrtic means. This the current quote i read, not really a quote but, it's a play, with short lines.

Estragon: Our movements.
Vladimir: Our elevations.
Estragon: Our relaxations.
Vladimir: Our elongtations.
Estragon: Ourrelaxtations.
Vladimir: To warm us up.
Estragon: To calm us down.
Vladimir: Off we go.

Reading Journal (Waiting for Godot)

This week i read a part from the book "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett.

I read during the part where they meet this one boy, they believe the boy is a messenger, and so after a little chat, Vladimir, tell's the boy to tell Godot "The man they are waiting for" that they are still waiting for him. Even though in this book, the two main characters haven't even seen Godot even once, so i am still confused on this part. The two main characters also talk about committing suicide. The author tries to give the characters a complicated yet passionate reason for killing themselves. It's a weird book so i don't know how to explain it.

Quote: Astride of a grave and a difficult birth. Down in the hole, lingeringly, the grave-digger puts on the forceps. We have time to grow old. The air is full of our cries. But habit is a great deadener." - Waiting for Godot, Samuel Beckett

Reading Journal (May 2, 2009)

Today me, Josh, and Aaron read a part of the book "Waiting for Godot"
In this part, it starts out with two friends. Vladimir, and Estargo. They just talk about random topics that lead to many things. In some parts, i believe the main characters are gay. The book also has many profanities.

Reading Journal (Article)

This weekend i read an article from MSN.
The article is about that the recession we are currently experiencing is not as bad compared to the one during Ronald Reagen's presidency. Here are some of the results from the article.
  • In January, reports showed 207,000 manufacturing jobs vanished in the largest one-month drop since October 1982.
  • Major automakers' U.S. sales extended their deep slump in February, putting the industry on track for its worst sales month in more than 27 years.
  • Struggling homebuilders have just completed the worst year for new home sales since 1982.
  • There are 12.5 million people out of work today, topping the number of jobless in 1982

Reading Journal (A Mighty Heart)

This week i read the book "A Mighty Heart" By Mariane Pearl
This part, i read about how Daniel Pearl's trap was set up, it was set up by some dude named Omar Sheikh, and he got another guy named Omar too, to bribe the taxi driver to drive him to an abandoned alley. That is were they just came up to him, put a mask over him. That pretty much of what i've read.
Here is the quote: “We can't be secure, we can't walk around free, as long as our government policies are continuing and we allow them to continue.” Daniel Pearl

Reading Journal (A Mighty Heart)

This week i've read a little part of "A Mighty Heart" by Mariane Pearl. From what i've read, they have arrived in Karachi. And there about to wait for their unborn son. But before they leave for the US, Daniel has one last interview. And Taxi dude leads him into a trap, so yeah, thats pretty much what i read.

Quote: " I know they are dying of fear, but they control their feelings. They are courageous people. Before hanging up, However, Ruth asks me the question that, I am certain, was the first to cross her mind.

(For some reason i believe the book has bad grammar or whatever, its not my grammar)

Reading Journal (A Mighty Heart)

This week i read a a little bit of the book named "A Mighty Heart" by Mariane Pearl. The book is about a journalist who goes to Pakistan for a very big interview. But at the very end of his interview he went missing. And that's pretty much what i read so far, and that they are suspecting this one guy of leading him somewhere else.

Quote: " I write this book for you, Adam, so you know that your father was not a hero but an ordinary man. An ordinary hero with a mighty heart. I write this book for you so you can be free.

Reading Journal (ThE CaT wiTh A rEally BIG hEad)

Here is a quote from the book called "ThE CaT wiTh A rEally BIG hEad"

Quote: "After a lifetime of mental abuse, large hats, and receiving Russian radio signals, the cat decided that he wanted to eat with dignity one time. One time eating strawless like a normal kitty. I like to think that he understood the consequences of this. That a big head means a big brain...
I like to think that."

Question: What is the cost of having a big head? Is it just to have a big brain and is it worth it?

Answer: I believe so, many people that were thought to have funny looking physical appearances turned out to be very famous and powerful people. Like for example, Napoleon, Einstein, etc.

My opinion on the Media and perspective.

The media, could be anywhere, from New York to the desert. The media has a lot of power. They basically control the entertainment of common human households these days. Also these are alot of shoe brands. Computers are also one of the main contributors to the media. Due to very popular websites among teenage children, like MySpace, Youtube, Facebook, etc. I believe that the media these days has too much power, and due to the idioticity of many people that just basically fund the media to support some of their stupid items. But these is normal, since alot of people believe that the higher the price of an item, the better it probaly it is. And they also prefer quality over quantity. Here is a list of many shoe brands these days. I got this from Wikipedia.org

This week, i've read an article, about an old woman who was savagely assaulted by a man, and while she was on the ground beggin for help, everyone else around her did not help. Because everyone else thought she was drunk, and i think that in england, it is very common to see people drunk at night. Here is the link to the article.

Reading Journal (3 Days before the POL's)

This week i read an article in a newspaper concerning the hotel attacks in Mumbai, India. There were some things that the news (CNN, AND OTHER MEDIA TV SHOWS) did not contain. For example, very explicit pictures were not released including one showing many dead victims on the ground in a bloodbath. And a picture showing an explosion on top of this Mumbai hotel. And the owner of this one hotel was also found dead, along with his 14 year old son, baby, and wife. And this concludes my reading journal for the week.

Here is the link for the article.
